Recovery Bucks Program
At The Nehemiah Project, we believe recovery is a personal journey, and individuals should have the freedom to define what success looks like for themselves. Our Recovery Bucks Program is an innovative, incentive-based initiative designed to eliminate barriers, bridge gaps in recovery support, and empower individuals to take meaningful steps toward healthier, more stable, and independent lives.
Unlike traditional assistance programs that determine what individuals need, Recovery Bucks puts choice, responsibility, and decision-making power in the hands of participants.
How Does Recovery Bucks Work?
Through our Project DAP (Digital Access Program), participants have the opportunity to earn up to $1,000 in Recovery Bucks by actively engaging in services that strengthen recovery capital and support personal growth.
Participants work alongside a Certified Recovery Peer Specialist to develop an individualized, person-centered plan that identifies their goals, barriers, and milestones.
Recovery Bucks can be earned through participation in:
Digital Literacy Training: Building essential technology skills for everyday life, education, and employment.
GED Remediation: Advancing educational goals and preparing for academic success.
Employment Readiness: Developing skills needed to obtain and maintain meaningful employment.
Recovery Planning and Peer Support: Identifying personal strengths, building recovery capital, and developing sustainable recovery strategies.
How Does Recovery Bucks Work?
As participants achieve their individualized milestones, they earn Recovery Bucks that can be used to address real-life barriers that might otherwise prevent continued progress.
Examples include transportation, childcare, employment-related expenses, educational fees, clothing, housing assistance, sober living deposits, and other approved recovery-supportive needs.
Recovery Bucks are not simply handed out—they are earned through meaningful participation, personal accountability, and progress toward participant-defined goals.
Turning Progress Into Possibilities
Recovery Bucks is about more than financial assistance. It is about restoring dignity, encouraging self-determination, strengthening personal responsibility, and recognizing that every step forward matters.
By allowing individuals to identify their own needs and earn resources to overcome barriers, we shift the focus from agency-defined success to participant-driven recovery and lasting independence.
Because recovery isn’t one-size-fits-all, support shouldn’t be either.
